The ashes of Gabo, who died on April 17, 2014 in Mexico City, where he lived from the 60s, remain in the cloister of La Merced, the University of Cartagena, where the young man born in Aracataca in 1928 studied law career was forced to stop in Bogota for the violent events of April 9, 1948.

The director of the FNPI, created by Nobel, considered a “logical decision, consistent with the life of García Márquez and his wife” that the writer’s ashes back to Colombia and rest in the Caribbean city.
The governor of the department Bolivar reported that along with the ashes of García Márquez a bust of the author who will be donated by his family and the preparation of which was entrusted to the British sculptor Kate Murray will be placed.
“What better place to store Gabo ashes of a place where new generations will seek knowledge and that he is a kind of governing student discipline, “he said.
