World Jewish Congress condemns boycott of Jewish artist in Spanish festival – Aurora

The World Jewish Congress condemned the decision of the organizers of a music festival in Spain to cancel the presentation of the Jewish artist Matthew Paul Miller under pressure from other participants.

Miller, aka Matisyahu, planned to offer a concert next Saturday in the “reggae” Rototom Sunsplash festival in the town of Benicàssim (eastern Spain).

But other artists had announced their intention to boycott their participation in the festival, amid a campaign alleging discriminatory manner that kept the young American Jewish pro-Israeli positions.

The World Jewish Congress (WJC, for its acronym in English), based in New York said in his “indignation” and “utter astonishment” by the decision of the organizers to cancel the performance of Miller.

The president of the organization, Ronald Lauder, reported that

it is an “anti-Semitic” measure and asked the Spanish authorities to “condemn this sad incident and take appropriate action against those responsible.”

For a proper attitude of ideological persecution of the Gestapo, the organizers intended to compel Matisyahu to sign a statement in favor of “Palestine” as a precondition to let him participate in the festival “Reggae”.

Matisyahu, Lauder says, “not only has the right to express their opinions (…), but also do not share the views repugnant that imposed the festival organizers.”

The WJC president argues that the festival receives official financial support and calls on the authorities to press for the participation of the Jewish musician admitted or withdraw its financial support.

“Anti-Semitism and racism not can be rewarded with support from the public sector, in Spain or anywhere else, “adds Lauder. EFE and Aurora
