A silent film about the detective Sherlock Holmes filmed in 1916 was found in a French file
The film had been wrongly classified by the employees of the Cinematique Francaise.
The protagonist in the role of Sherlock Holmes actor William Gillette, who became popular on screen character in the novels of Arthur Conan Doyle.
Gillette, who died in 1937, adopted many of the characteristics that identify the detective. He is credited with coining the phrase “Elementary my dear Watson.”
