Author of “Akira” evokes the 2011 tsunami in the wall of a … – The Confidential

Tokyo, Oct. 8 (EFE) .- Katsuhiro Otomo Japanese cartoonist, author of the cult manga “Akira” has designed a giant mural for the airport of Sendai (northern Japan) that evokes the tsunami that devastated this region in March 2011.

The mural, whose design has been unveiled, distinctive style blends the “cyberpunk” Otomo with elements of Japanese mythology, and on display in the main lobby of the airport in March 2015 Efe confirmed the project company.

The opening will coincide with the fourth anniversary of the natural disaster that hit Japan in 2011 and left nearly 19,000 dead or missing.

The work represents a fantastic scene where a naked character mounted on a robotic flying fish appears, Fujin Shinto deities (god of thunder) and Raijin (god of wind) and choppy waves reminiscent of “The Great Wave at Kanagawa” by master of Japanese prints Hokusai.
