10 reasons to see “Star Wars: The Awakening of force” – El Universal

Perhaps the president Barack Obama was confusing references Star Wars and Star Trek when he said he would have to make a “Jedi mind-meld” with congressional leaders in 2013, eight years after the last film “Star Wars” had been released, but gave a small taste of what is ingrained that history in popular culture.

The awakening of force has finally reached theaters and so we take the time to think of 10 reasons why “Star Wars” is so prominent a place in the firmament of pop culture.

SCIENCE FICTION SEXY

Star Wars made science fiction was attractive to the masses, just ask a nerd.

“I remember going with my wife and say, ‘Look at this audience!” said Paul Levinson, author of science fiction and a professor at Fordham University. “This really came saga science fiction, which had an audience of worship, to the realm of the mass in an incredible way.”

Not only that, he made resonate with children, grandparents and all in the middle ages.

created a parallel universe

The universe was not created in space, if not here in the Earth in shopping centers. Comics, video games and of course, toys. “Movies are the mother ship,” said Henry Jenkins, a professor of communication, journalism and film art at USC Annenberg School. “Meanwhile all those other forms generated content. These integrated systems have become a standard for the series of successful Hollywood movies.”

TOYS SPECIAL

How big has been Star Wars for the toy industry?

“Most industrial property has been seen, bigger than any other for billions, “said Jim Silver of TTPM, a Web site for reviews of toys. “To put it in perspective you have to imagine that ‘Frozen’ lasts for almost 40 years but with a much larger demographic.”

HUMOR

One of the best things for The awakening of force is humor in the midst of the action, a quality taken from early films, especially Han Solo and, of course, C -P30 and R2-D2. “Robots never been funny before,” Levinson said.

HARRISON FORD

For many a Ford dealership as Only the adventurer was the best in the original film. He seemed to be having more fun and less stressed out everyone else. And at 73 he is still phenomenal, also has an important role in the new movie.

NEARBY CHARACTERS

Solo is one of the best, but overall the Star Wars universe presented characters that people could identify and remember.

“After all the characters and the story are at the heart of the movies, no special effects, “Jenkins said. “They have many more dimensions when compared with ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ (also released in 1977). Most of us remember us those characters.”

MIX GENDER

Another unique aspect of the story is the way in which its creator George Lucas film genres mixed to create a world with many nuances. Among them are the westerns, fantasy and science fiction . Jenkins also find echoes of the film of the Second World War, “The Wizard of Oz” and even Laurel and Hardy. “Everyone has a place in the universe,” he said.

Parents and Children

What can be more characteristic dialogue Star Wars “I am your father”? (To satisfy puritas No, I am your father “and not the one usually say” Luke, I am your father “) The dynamic father and son” is a matter that goes back to the ancient Greeks, “Levinson said . For the fans will be pleased to know that is repeated in the new movie.

THE CHARM OF SABLES

no related to a movie with a more enduring than the lightsabers to toys.

“As a kid turned everything into lightsabers, paper rolls, flashlights,” said Gerry Canavan, a professor of letters English at Marquette who specializes in science fiction. Canavan was born after the first film was released, but it seems that the world came to know the history … and sabers. “The noise is incredible,” he said.

HAIRSTYLE RARE

Are cinnamon rolls, bagels or donuts? The hair of Princess Leia, where the hell out ? Lucas told the magazine Time in 2002 that sought to “create something that was different and not out of fashion” and finally succeeded. He also chose a “revolutionary style woman as Pancho Villa, the southern United States” (greetings to the Mexican fans). It’s definitely hard to forget.
