The magic of “A monster comes to see me,” Bayonne to the conquest of Goya – The Universe

The drama fantastic, “A monster comes to see me”, by Juan Antonio Bayona, with 12 nominations, seeks to confirm their status of favorite of the night this Saturday at the gala of delivery of the Goya awards, considered the Oscars of Spanish cinema.

But the film more box office last year in concert halls of spain, on a child that a giant imaginary help to cope with the sadness for the cancer of the mother, will have to be imposed in the face of fierce competition of two applauded thrillers that have confirmed the good health of the genre in the country.

The spy story “The man of a thousand faces”, by Alberto Rodríguez, and the directorial debut of Raúl Arévalo, “Late for the ira”, they come with 11 nominations each, including best film of the year, the gala at the Marriott Hotel Auditorium of Madrid, which starts at 22.00 hrs local (21H00 GMT).

in Addition to the films of Bayonne (a tape in English with Sigourney Weaver and Liam Neeson), Rodríguez and Arévalo, compete for the top prize in the 31st edition of the Goya the thriller “God forgive us”, by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, and the drama “Juliet”, by Pedro Almodóvar.

The manchego 67 years of age, the most international of the Spanish film makers, wants to end a drought of 10 years without any prize of the Spanish Academy of Cinema, from “Re -”, which in 2007 earned him the awards of best film and best director.

“Juliet”, a return of Almodóvar to the female characters strong, has seven nominations, among them best director and best adapted screenplay, for bringing to the screen a story that is based on three short stories of canadian author Alice Munro.

The protagonist of the film, Emma Suárez, is one of the biggest stars expected on the red carpet before the gala, as well as his rival in the category of best actress in a leading role, the oscar-winning actress Penelope Cruz, who is seeking his fourth Goya award for her role in “The queen of Spain”, by Fernando Trueba.

But in this section rings with insistence the name of Barbara Lennie, “Mary (and others)”, an actress who with 32 years aspires to a second statue with the bust of the painter Francisco Goya, or you could surprise the highly sought-after Carmen Machi, “The open door”.

on The men’s side, the favorite is Eduard Fernández, Silver Shell at San Sebastian for his portrayal of the elusive spy Francisco Paesa in “The man of a thousand faces”, in a category which is complete Roberto Alamo, “God forgive us”, and Antonio de la Torre and Luis Callejo, by “Late to the anger.”

Glamour, humor, and policy?

As always, Latin America will have their recognition. The award for the best film of the region comprises of argentina, “The illustrious citizen”, by Gastón Duprat and Mariano Cohn; “From Beyond”, the venezuelan Lorenzo Beams; “The chosen”, of the mexican David Pablos; and the colombian “Anna”, Jacques Toulemonde.

At the gala glamour is taken for granted. It remains to be seen if the policy will also appear, in moments in which the film industry is still resentful about the rise of the so-called “VAT culture” at 21%, carried out by the conservative government in 2012 in the midst of their efforts to reduce the State deficit.

The humor ensures that the driver of the ceremony, the actor and comedian Dani Rovira, star of the blockbuster “Ocho apellidos vascos”.

The Goya of Honor will receive the singer and Spanish actress Ana Belén. the (E)
