“Moonlight”: 5 reasons why it could beat “The Land” – The Trade

Behind the 14 nominations for "La La Land" at the Oscars 2017, there are two other films that he heels with eight nominations: "Moonlight" and "Arrival". But of these two, only the first one has a decent chance of being able aguarle the party to the music of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. And the reasons are clear.

"Moonlight" –which premieres today in the Peru– follows three distinct stages in the life of a young black (and gay) through the streets of Miami. This is a tale of training, abuse and acceptance that it has received splendid reviews in the critical specialty. Will it be able to dethrone the big favorite? These are your points in favour:

1. ACCOLADE OF GOLD

Having won the Golden Globe for Best dramatic film have been a jerk extremely important to "Moonlight". It is true that "Land" did the same in the category comedy/musical, but it is the drama genre that best flirts with the Academy, because the serious issues are the ones that tend to have a predilection.

2. TOO much NOISE

The 'hype' generated in recent weeks by "The Land" has led to a reverse effect in the film, to the point that some people have come to hate her. The same reason could cause it to deflate to some of the voters of the award.

3. THE PRESSURE OF the FAVORITE

Historically, not always the films with more nominations have been the most winners in the night of the Oscar. Two examples: "Lincoln" got twelve nominations and won only two, while "The born again" also had nominations and ended up with only three statuettes. "La La Land" could comply with that rule, and "Moonlight" to take it.

4. OSCAR NOT SO WHITE

The controversial racial of the past year could be claimed in this edition of the Oscar, in which there are up to 14 nominations for african americans, which has led it to be ranked as the most diverse of the story. This, of course, favors to "Moonlight", a film directed and starring almost in their entirety by black artists.

5. POLITICAL MESSAGE

In the first Oscar of the was post Obama, America lives in a revolutionary moment. "Moonlight" is also a movie strong, and his victory could serve as a strong message to the administration of Donald Trump, as a backup to the black population, impoverished and homosexual in the country.
