Friday Google celebrates the 605 years of the Astronomical Clock Prague, a marvel of watchmaking world that has set the pace of European history since the fourteenth century.

The device consists of three main parts . The first one, an astronomical quadrant, besides indicating 24 hours a day, represents the positions of the sun and moon in the sky.

Another part is composed of the animated figures including “The Walk of the Apostles”, a clockwork showing, when the clock strikes the hour, the figures of the twelve Apostles. And finally circular calendar with medallions representing the months of the year.

This century masterpiece was about to be destroyed by the Nazis during World War II, but fortunately resisted the attacks and after thorough and extensive work was put back into operation after 1948
