Fernando Trueba distinguish with the National Film Award – Vanguardia.com.mx

Madrid, España.- The director, producer and screenwriter Fernando Trueba was honored today with the National Film Award of Spain, awarded by the Ministry of Culture and endowed with 30,000 euros.

The Jury award recognized “his undisputed career” and “work in defense of the cinemarográfica profession since the beginning of his career,” it said in a statement.

He also highlighted his work as head of the Academy of Motion Spanish, of which he was president in 1988, and “the international recognition it has won the Spanish cinema thanks to the successes of his films”.

Among them “Belle Epoque”, with which in 1993 won an Oscar for best foreign language film, and some of his later works, such as the documentary “Calle 54″ and the animated film “Chico and Rita”.

Fernando Trueba (Madrid, 1955) studied at the School of Information Sciences at the Complutense University of Madrid. In 1980 was released on the big screen with “debut”, a comedy starring Oscar Ladoire.

Six years later won in Berlin the Silver Bear for the film “The Year of the lights” set in the Spanish posguera.

After winning in 1993 in Hollywood with “Belle Epoque” starring a young Penelope Cruz, directed “Two Much” with Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith.

Five years later he returned to lead Penelope Cruz in another of his memorable hits, “The Girl of Your Dreams” film that won seven Goyas.

In his career highlights also the documentaries ” Calle 54 “(2000) and” The Miracle of Candeal “(2004), in which it is immersed in the Latin American jazz and the music of Brazilian Carlihnos Brown, respectively.

His tape animation “Chico and Rita” (2010) came to be nominated for an Oscar. The last time I sat in the director’s chair was to direct “The Artist and the Model” (2012), which was presented at the International Film Festival of San Sebastian.

The filmmaker brother also director David Trueba, has also worked as a film critic for publications such as the newspaper “El Pais”.
