They steal the skull of the director of “Nosferatu” in Germany – El Nuevo Herald

The skull of the director’s classic silent film “Nosferatu” was stolen from his grave in Germany, authorities said Wednesday.

The theft of the skull of Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau was seen on Monday said Olaf Ihlefeldt, administrator of the cemetery in Stahnsdorf, just outside Berlin. It is difficult to determine the exact date of the theft, he said, but probably occurred between 4 and 12 July.

The thief or thieves left few superficial damage to the tomb, and it was unclear whether they had chosen the remains of Murnau deliberately. The filmmaker is buried next to his two brothers, whose graves remained intact.

The police opened an investigation and called for collaboration to witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious in the cemetery in recent weeks.

Murnau died in a car accident in Santa Barbara, California, in 1931.
