El Quijote, in 40 languages ​​and one place – El Universal

National Library of Spain (NBS) introduced a new portal Don Quixote , which provides access to more than three thousand 300 editions in 40 languages, with their translations, adaptations and selections.

In collaboration with Iberdrola, through its Foundation in Spain, the portal dedicated to “Don Quixote” was created with the celebration of the fourth centenary of the publication of the Second Part of the work and represents a pioneering approach that replaces the printed catalog for a digital product that can be continuously updated.

The National Library of Spain said through its website accessible to all editions of ” Don Quixote “, from the first, in 1605, to the most recent.

In addition, numerous adaptations, compilations, selections and school editions have been published and constitute a fundamental chapter in the dissemination of Cervantes and the history of education in Spain.

The portal, which adapts to different devices, provides a single point of access to all editions of “Don Quixote” that preserves the National Library of Spain.

For its implementation has been cataloged or revised cataloging of the major issues in different languages.

It has also developed a specific search engine on the issues “Don Quixote” in order to facilitate its location in catalog BNE (containing more than four million bibliographic references).

It also gives access to the digital version of the works in all cases in which they are scanned.

The NBS said the huge success of “Don Quixote” made since the beginning of its publishing history began to be translated into the major languages.

He added that all have their place in this website, which allows approaching most of the translations have been made.

At its importance from a linguistic point of view are coupled with access to the various interpretations of the work in relation to the different cultural references.
