Found objects, placed side by side and in a certain order, make up the universe with the artist Joan Miró worked on his studies of the Spanish island of Palma de Mallorca and now acquire own importance in the book The eye of Miró .
The book explains “why Miró is Miró and how Miró created Miró” magical, poetic and visual formula for how, through the magic of the found object, “could evoke characters, figures and create sculptures with roots, cactus, cans, which apparently have no value and that it have a magical value. ”
He explains Joan Punyet Miró, grandson of the artist, in an interview to mark the publication of the book, along with photographer Jean Marie del Moral, with which Miró had “a visual poetic relationship” because “he understood immediately that Jean Marie had the eye to decipher the code. ”
The work is the result of Miró own desire, which, as stated in the book, in 1941 wrote: “Editing a book with beautiful photos of objects found by me and enrich add an engraving or color litho with a poetic text or a poem, or even a poem of mine, if I find one. ”
And that’s what they’ve done Punyet Miro and Del Moral, who have enjoyed the cooperation of the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation of Mallorca, Joan Miró of Barcelona and La Fabrica Successio Miró Foundation.
The book, very complete, discover some of the studies looked at Palma de Mallorca, the designed by his friend Josep Lluís Sert and the Majorcan farmhouse Son Boter, side by side.
So far these studies have not been seen so and neither had seen all objects along their lives collected.
“No objects to be collected objects but because he communicated something of his work or the future of his work. He was very interested colors, shapes of objects, but the object itself was less important”, according to Del Moral.
“The book the reader discovers other angles, other objects, other furniture, other details of the history of Miro,” said the photographer, for whom it is very important that these studies have been left as they were Miró’s death. When photographing objects, “the result is a tribute to these objects, which are presented as object-poems”.
During 2014, every Monday and for three hours, Jean Marie opened the windows and took to photograph objects on white background. He has not tried to make a reproduction of objects or a reinterpretation.
“It was pick an object and look at what he would have liked to Miró, yet the object as it is seen. There is a play with photographic optics, focus, distance and angle.”
The authors also wanted it to be a very cheerful book “and give maximum life to each object,” according to del Moral, who recalled that in 1978, after the death of Franco, came to Spain to photograph Spanish painters and intellectuals.
“One was Miró, who accepted me in his study, which was unusual and it changed my life I discovered a universe that intrigued me From there I began to photograph the artists’ studios and mental space:… A study It is the self-portrait. ”
The objects in “The Eye of Miró” could only be photographed by Jean Marie del Moral, in the opinion of Punyet Miro, because it is a book “which requires a poetic eye and one could have done it, to which Miró himself he trained his eye. ”
Excited as ever speaking of his grandfather, Punyet Miro said the artist was obsessed with explaining all of chemistry and magic formula Druid, the magician.
“For Miró was a shamanic being, with a strong connection to the universe, the cosmos. In his dreams surfaced images with music, with poetry and objects created an iconography, an alphabet created by himself through influences Surrealists. This gallery of small things is the backbone of Miró alchemical spirit. ”
He also recalled that the Miró himself said he felt magnetism to a particular object, “and the explanation is shamanic. He had a trained eye that made through a third eye, their collective subconscious feel a ‘shock’, a magnetic attraction to a particular object. ”
