MADRID (EFE) .- The two top prizes in international photography festival PhotoEspaña were awarded today to the Chilean photographer Paz Errazuriz, who received the PhotoEspaña Prize 2015, and the Spanish Tail, Bartolomé Ros Award.
The PhotoEspaña Award recognizes the career of a personality in the field of national and international photography and in this case distinguished work, the Errazuriz (Santiago de Chile, 1944), a “huge honesty, freedom and courage” said Exhibition Director, María García Yelo, in a press conference.
The jury praised the “rigor, empathy and respect with which the author portrays contemporary social life through human groups as disparate as fighters killed, transvestites stigmatized, confined to psychiatric institutions, naked bodies sculpted by old age, melancholy tanguistas or circus characters’ sick.
This is black and white, mainly portraits, which offer a social document while the aesthetic experience.
“I work in closed series, can be in some years. And I do not feel I belong to any group, but I feel close to all. These are issues where society does not put his eyes, and I intend to give encouragement to people dare to look, “he told Efe the artist at the end of the press conference.
