Polanski brought before the courts in the extradition process – El Diario de Yucatán

         


     

WARSAW (EFE) .- Roman Polanski went to court today to testify Cracow (southern Poland), which must decide on the extradition request of the filmmaker requested by the United States for the crime of sexual abuse of a 13 years committed in California in 1977.

Before the court reported that not make a decision on delivery or not Polanski to US authorities today and said that the process will be delayed because, inter alia, Translation is necessary documentation submitted by the Swiss Justice.

In any case, under Polish law, if the judges rule in favor of the extradition request, the Minister of Justice, Czesary Grabarczyk, decide ultimately whether or not gives green light to the process.

If the court refuses extradition of the filmmaker, the decision shall be final and binding.

The director appeared in court in a closed hearing, as days ago claimed his defense and to safeguard the privacy of Polanski before the media interest that has raised the case.

In today’s hearing is expected that the Polish prosecutor present the reasons is declared admissible the request for extradition by the United States and the claims raised by the defense of the filmmaker.

The extradition request was filed last January and, after being admitted by the prosecution of Krakow, the competent court of that locality was sent.

In recent months Polanski spends time in Krakow, the city where preparing to shoot a new movie and the who rents the apartment where he lived as a child

The presence of the filmmaker in Poland was used by the United States to request his extradition
