Paul emotional farewell to George Martin – infonews

To much of the world, the news of the death of George Martin came through the own Ringo Starr. In his Twitter account, drummer of the Beatles wrote: “God bless George Martin. Peace and love to Judy and her family. George, you’re going to miss him. “

A few hours later, Paul McCartney acknowledged receipt of the loss with a letter that has just published on its official site and social networks.

“I have wonderful memories of this great man who will always be with me. it was a true gentleman and a second father to me. he guided the career of the Beatles with such skill and humor that became a true friend to me and my family. If someone won the title of the fifth Beatle, that was George. from the day that materialized for the Beatles first recording contract, until the last time I saw him was the most generous, intelligent and musical person I’ve had the pleasure to know.

it is difficult to choose my favorite memories of my time with George, there are many, but one that always comes to mind is when I brought ‘Yesterday’ to a recording session and boys . band suggested that singing accompanied by a guitar solo George said, ‘Paul, I have the idea of putting a string quartet in the song’. I said, ‘Oh, no, George, we’re a band of rock and roll and do not think it’s a good idea’. With the gentle patient treatment and a major producer he told me: ‘Let’s try and if it does not work we will not use it and go with your solo version’. I agreed with this and I walked around his house the next day to work on the arrangement.

It took the chords I showed him and played the notes on the piano, put the cello in the eighth floor and first violin in a higher octave and gave me my first lesson in string arrangement for a foursome. When the string quartet was recorded at Abbey Road was so exciting to know that his idea was right that people talked about it for weeks. His idea obviously worked because the song later became one of the most recorded songs in history with versions of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye and thousands more.

This is just one of the many memories I have of George also helped me with arrangements ‘Eleanor Rigby’, ‘Live and Let Die’ and many other songs of mine.

I am proud to have met a gentleman with a keen sense of humor, so he had the ability to laugh at himself. Even when he was knighted by Queen he was never the slightest trace of snobbery in it.

My family and I, who was a very dear friend, I will miss a lot and send our love to his wife Judy and their children Giles and Lucy, and grandchildren.

the world has lost a truly great man who left an indelible mark on my soul and history of British music.

God bless you George and all who sail in you!
